NYC norm-check: If a local chef slides you a homemade dessert and says 'come taste the rest at my place later' - cute flirt or hard nope?

Aspiring chef/food blogger from Brooklyn here. I hand out surprise bites sometimes - is inviting someone home after a quick taste normal around NYC, or is that weird/unsafe? Be brutally honest.
